Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), also known as melissa, is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Lamiaceae family. Lemon balm originates from Central and Southern Europe, the Mediterranean region, Iran and Central Asia, but after its mass cultivation, there are now plants all around the world. The leaves of the herb are used for teas, as a spice and for medicinal purposes. Lemon balm is often used as means for relieving stress and tension. These biological properties are attributed to its chemical ingredients, which include essential oils, flavonoids and phenolic acids, such as rosemary acid, caffeic acid, triterpenes and others. One of the most typical applications of passion flower is for the treatment of anxiety and agitation. Studies have shown that the plant helps with insomnia and anxiety. It has been suggested that it increases the level of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. This is a neurotransmitter that reduces brain activity, which can help you relax and sleep well. Chamomile is one of the most commonly used medicinal plants. The herb is used internally and externally, for tea and in cosmetics, and its relaxing and anti-inflammatory properties are most valued. The plant is found in meadows and pastures, along fences and roads, and the flowers of the herb are harvested for treatment during the flowering period from May to July. In Tibetan medicine, chamomile was considered a miraculous means of rejuvenation, and Tibetan monks drank a decoction before bed. Melatonin is a substance that is naturally synthesized in the brain and regulates the normal biological sleep/wake cycle. With age, its amount in the body decreases, leading to various sleep disorders.
